Once upon a time, there was a girl named Heather and guy named Ross. The almighty creator of the universe specifically made them for one another, her for me and me for her. You and me and me and you, no matter how you roll the dice.... However, it took us about 20 years to realize this fact. Actually, it probably took Heather only about 19 and me about 20. God's timing was and is perfect.

October 2001, this was the first time I remember meeting Heather. It was pretty much a hello and a handshake. "How do you do?" Fast forward one year, Heather and I were both sophomores at IU. We were in love, but it was not with each other. At this point I believe that each of us had finally firmly cemented God as our foundation, our rock, our first love. Consequently, God opened the door to our relationship and started to make things happen. Heather began noticing me, and after awhile I began noticing her.

I remember that throughout the fall of 2002, Heather and I began to cross paths quite often. She would appear at hockey games or the bus stop, and this was the only semester of my eight that I used an instant messenger. It seemed that I only used it to talk to Heather. Coincidence, probably not.

As fall came to a close and winter began, there was a Campus Crusade semiformal dance. At this point, Heather and I were pretty good friends. She liked me and wanted me to ask her to the dance. I liked her as well, so naturally I did not ask her. Instead, I went with my good friend Stephen Cuffey. Stephen and I had a romantic dinner at O'Charleys and went to the dance where I ended up spending most of my time with Heather. Stephen and I did have a good discussion about Heather over dinner. I was able to sort out some of my feelings for Heather and seek advice from a brother.

The next notable date, date having a couple of meanings, was December 14, 2002. This was our first date. I had gone to Heather's to watch the IU/Purdue game with group of friends, and after the game Heather came to my glamorous dorm room, Read-Curry 423, to watch her favorite movie, Moulin Rouge. Then our first traditional date, dinner and a movie, was four days later right in the middle of finals week.

On side note, December 14, was an important date in several ways. First, it was the first date of my 20 year life. Heather was my first girlfriend ever and would later be my first kiss. Next, the number 14 is my favorite number. Third, this is marked not only my first first date, but also my last first date since it has now become clear that Heather and I will always be together.

Since the December 14, our relationship has been growing by God's grace and mercy. Our relationship truly happened by the power of God. I know that it may sound silly, but I don't think that I would have ever pursued a relationship with Heather without the help of God. I had become pretty content with my single life, but God thankfully had different and better, as usual, plans.

Hit the fast forward again, June 14, 2005, it was our 2.5 year anniversary, and our fairytale relationship continued as we entered the engagement period. She said yes, and I said wow.
