I first met Ross when he was dressed up like a thug for Halloween - aluminum foil covered front tooth, oversized football jersey (on one arm), backwards hat, gold chains...he was a sight to see! We met our freshmen year at Indiana University (2001). The beginning of our friendship was slow moving for no other reason than it wasn't God's timing. We lived on different parts of campus and didn't really have the same group of friends.

I think part of the reason that I didn't notice Ross right away was because he was so quiet. He still is, but I think he's warmed up to me pretty well...let's hope so, at least! At the same time, though, his quiet nature is something that really attracted me to him. Ross caught my eye when he became a leader on a committee within Campus Crusade for Christ. I noticed him taking responsibility for the sophomore class without putting on a show. I could tell that he genuinely cared about his fellow classmates and he took his position as a leader seriously. I really enjoyed seeing him more and talking to him when I had the chance. A few weeks later, I admitted to a few of my friends that I had a crush on him.

The sophomores planned a few parties together, which gave me opportunities to see Ross. Somehow, we always managed to be in the same room and start talking. I remember one party where we tried to find the matching stick-men on this poster for at least an hour...we never did find them. I really enjoyed getting to know who Ross Chasey was. At some point in our growing friendship I found out that his real first name is actually Hayden, he's a workout-aholic and he's been a vegetarian his entire life...hmm...interesting. Ross and I always had a good time talking and learning more about each other. I was always so nervous to talk to him, though. I think in my heart, I knew that we would be together someday, but at the time, there were so many unknowns.

The Crusade Snowball was coming up in December and I thought that if Ross knew what he was doing, he was waiting for an opportunity like this to start our relationship. I was taking a ballroom dance class with my good friend Ben. One day after class, Ben asked me to go with him. I had a great time with Ben, but I think I still owe him a few dances. Ross and I danced a lot together that night even though we didn’t go together. And I later found out that Ross went to dinner with a friend to talk about Ross pursuing me in a relationship. Apparently, he did know what he was doing...he just did it with flare. Something that I've learned about Ross is that he takes his time to make important decisions. I'm Miss Impulsive, so this a great balance for me! It's important for Ross to be fully supportive of his own decisions. What a great concept!

So...after the dance, we started talking even more...mostly on instant messenger and in person. Before long, we went out on our first official date - December 14, 2002. We watched my favorite movie, Moulin Rouge, after the Purdue vs. Indiana game.

On the 18th, we did the traditional dinner and a movie thing. But before the actual movie, we went to his dorm room and watched his Michael Jackson DVD...?? Most people aren't aware of Ross's amazing ability to dance...he's great.

So that's how it started! And it's been an incredible journey ever since. I've loved spending the past two and a half years in Bloomington, Indiana, growing to love the man I'm going to marry. God has poured blessing after blessing on us and I'm amazed at how Ross and I are so perfectly matched. I love Ross with all my heart and I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for us.
